Most people finders tools look at publicly available information from sources such as local white page listings. This information is consolidated into single data source which can be accessed via the search tool.

Results can vary from tool to tool depending on the source data the tool has access to. It is a good idea to try more than one people finder until you find the information you are looking for. Also, the information provided can be old or out of date. A good way to test a people finder search tool is to type your own name, or that of a person who's contact information you know, into the tool and see what type of results you get. InfoBel USA  - web site has white, yellow and business pages on the internet. is able to respond in a few milliseconds to thousands of simultaneous requests, and is now the reference in white and yellow pages search. It gives access to the national sites more specifically dedicated to their own market.
ICQ Advanced People Search  -  ICQ or 'I Seek You' facilitates communication by email, chat, SMS, phone and pager. The people find page allows you to search by first name, last name, email address or phone number. Also, you can do a reverse search with an email address or a phone number. ICQ was launched in 1996 and has a global community of over 160 million users in more than 245 countries.

The 'advanced' search option will allow you to add additional search information such as gender, age range, marital status, country, city, msn nickname. The search can be very useful because in addition to the information above, result can include a photo, as well as additional information such as hobbies and interests. MSN boast a huge international membership directory listing to search, and is offered in multiple languages.  - is the world’s largest online resource for family history, with more than 1.6 million paying subscribers around the world as of March 2011. Since starting as a publishing company in 1983, they have been a leader in the family history market for over 20 years and helped pioneer the market for online family history research.
WhoWhere  -  Now owned by lycos, WhoWhere allows you to enter as much or as little about the person as you know. Can do a first name - last name search, or include additional information such as street, unit number, city, state, zip, and phone number to further restrict the search results.
Yahoo! Pulse (Replaced Yahoo Member Directory Search)  -  This has changed since we first posted this resource. Its now called "Yahoo! Pulse" and it appears you must have sign up to use the search fucntionality. It was the Yahoo Member Directory search.
